On November 8, 2018, at 6:33 a.m., a fire was reported near Poe Dam and Camp Creek in northern Butte County, California. Driven by 50 mph winds and dry conditions, the rapidly growing wildfire rolled seven miles west into the rural town of Paradise at 8 a.m., destroying most of the community. Eventually, the Camp Fire consumed more than 150,000 acres, burned more than 18,000 buildings, and killed more than 85 people in the deadliest wildfire in the United States since 1918.
