Average June precipitation (mm)
Weather stations that do not report precipitation data.
NOAA collects the daily record of data from thousands of weather stations worldwide. This archive is called the Global Historical Climatology Network Daily (GHCN-D). NOAA shares each station’s record of weather data as a text file with a standard
format.
Esri processed the GHCN-D archive to produce a layer of 30-year monthly averages from 1981 to 2010 and shared it in ArcGIS Living Atlas of the World. A 30-year average is widely accepted as a representation of climate, which is defined as the long-term
average of weather.
This map of average June precipitation shows one of the hundreds of variables in Esri’s GHCN-D layer. The separate graphs, called climographs, represent 30-year monthly averages for temperature
and precipitation.
