Spatiotemporal locations of encountering events Spatiotemporal locations of loitering events
12
This map pair represents the spatial density clusters of 1) transshipment encountering events and 2) loitering events. The spatial extent of loitering clusters is more extensive because these events are analogous to service areas for reefers. Spatial density clusters show that reefers loiter within large areas while waiting for fishing vessels to approach them to transfer goods. Spatial clusters of loitering and encounters correspond at a small distance to the shore, where licensed reefers can haul goods to the port, and at large distances where transfers are made in international waters.
Spatiotemporal colocation of encountering and loitering events
In this map, spatiotemporal colocation analysis indicates that international waters are hotbeds of catch transfer, with some exceptions near exclusive economic zones. Significant colocation of encounters and loitering is shown in brown. Significant isolation, where encounters and loitering events occur far from each other, is shown in green.
