On the cover: The Spilhaus World Ocean Map depicts the oceans of our planet as a single intermingled body of water—which they actually are. This map displays the geomorphology of the seafloor as tectonic activity splits the crust along volcanic ridges and folds older rock beneath neighboring plates along deepsea trenches. Learn more about the unique qualities and interesting story behind the modern GIS incarnation of the Spilhaus map in the Technology Showcase on page 182.
